The creative journey takes many weeks, from concept to finished wallpapers. In the first instance, Anneliese creates botanical drawings depicting all aspects of the countryside, often made in the open air. She also takes inspiration from museums and other historic reference materials. From these preliminary drawings she develops her exquisite images into full scale repeating designs. These are carefully transferred onto Traditional Artist’s Linoleum. Anneliese then meticulously carves the image into the Lino block which may take several weeks to complete; the inks she then mixes by ‘hand’, matching colours by eye. She finally prints the images by hand, using a 1950s manual proofing press, onto high quality paper for interiors.
